Tree Preservation
Soil First. Trees Thrive.
Most tree decline starts below ground—long before problems appear in the canopy.
Degraded Soils
Root collars are buried. Vascular function is restricted. Roots are confined. Soil life declines. Trees become more vulnerable to drought, storms, and premature failure.
Restored, Living Soils
Air and water move freely. Biology rebounds. Roots expand, improving stability, nutrient uptake, and resilience.
Integrated Solutions
Root Collar Excavation
Trees require the root collar — the point where the trunk transitions into the soil — to remain at or slightly above finished grade. When this area is covered due to improper planting depth, over-mulching, or changes in grade, normal vascular function is restricted, leading to progressive physiological stress.
Trees with problematic root collars often lack a visible root flare and appear to enter the soil vertically, similar to a telephone pole. Prolonged burial of the root collar increases the likelihood of girdling root formation, fungal infection, and secondary stress factors that can result in long-term decline and tree failure.
We use a high-velocity air excavation tool known as the Supersonic Air Knife® to loosen compacted soil without damaging roots. Compressed air is directed into the soil around the root collar of the tree, removing excess soil and mulch. Unlike digging with tools, it won’t cut or damage roots. After excavation, the roots are inspected for any signs of damage, fungal infections, or girdling roots, and necessary corrections are made using precise techniques. The root collar is restored to the proper grade to remain exposed and healthy.
Soil & Root System Revitalization
Through carefully applied soil revitalization treatments using our Air Knife, we can re-establish the right conditions for your trees to thrive.
Our specialized tools safely decompact the area within a tree’s root system and incorporate organic materials, such as fungal-dominated compost and nutrient loaded biochar. The area is then covered with a layer of locally sourced hardwood mulch. High-quality mulch helps retain soil moisture, regulate temperature, and steadily enriches the soil with organic matter as it decomposes.
In short, we help recreate the soil conditions of a healthy forest floor so your trees can grow in the environment they were designed for.
Cabling & Bracing
Ornamental & Fruit Tree Care
We provide skilled, seasonally timed pruning and fruit tree care to promote healthy structure, strong branching, and consistent harvests. Our approach encourages open canopies for sunlight and airflow, helping reduce disease while improving fruit quality and tree resilience. From early training of young trees to careful maintenance of mature orchards, we guide growth with intention.
